Position Summary:
The Dean of Curriculum & Instruction will be responsible for overseeing the curricular and instructional programming for the school. This will include: directly managing the school's instructional program; supporting the management of instructional staff by providing regular feedback to teachers on their effectiveness in meeting the needs of the school's instructional program; and designing and delivering professional development to push the strength and impact of the instructional program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee ELA and Math curriculum development and student assessment-related systems
- Set up groups for the Intervention Blocks and Acceleration Academies, targeting school priorities
- Set weekly instructional goals for teachers and design an observation schedule to provide feedback on teachers' progress in meeting those goals;
- Observe teachers daily, conducting formal as well as informal observations.
- Provide ongoing feedback to teachers on instructional delivery and structure substantive feedback for more significant areas of growth
- Meet with teachers weekly to plan units, examine assessments and student data, and
provide feedback on instruction and curriculum design
- Contribute to all staff member's evaluations and attend evaluation meetings with instructional staff
- Participate in daily instructional and cultural walkthroughs with the Principal
- Manage special education and ELL programs, working with the SPED, ELL and core academic teachers
to design inclusion, monitor the effectiveness of inclusion, and provide feedback and support to create a high quality inclusion program
- Develop and lead instructional professional development
- Implement effective internal assessment systems to monitor academic progress of students throughout the year
- Implement and oversee systems for data analysis of all internal and external assessments
- Seek and share curriculum and best practices across grades and with schools in LPS
- Attend ELA and Math Coaches' Meetings
- Serve as a productive member of the school's Leadership Team
- Serve as a productive member of the school's community
- Do whatever it takes to ensure the mission of the school is upheld.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Deep knowledge of ELA/Math curriculum, assessment design, and data-driven instruction
- Strong instructional coaching skills, including teacher observation, feedback, and evaluation
- Ability to analyze student data and implement targeted interventions and acceleration strategies
- Experience designing and leading professional development and collaborative teacher planning
- Ability to build and manage inclusive programs for SPED and ELL students
- Strong leadership and organizational skills to implement school-wide systems and drive instructional improvement
Qualifications & Requirements:
- At least 5 years of work experience including substantial experience both in teaching and instructional leadership roles
- Demonstrated efficacy in raising academic achievement for low-income students in the classroom
- Experience working in a high-performing school organization or other entrepreneurial environment strongly preferred
- Master's Degree or Higher
- Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal (PK-8) or Supervisor/Director License
- Belief that every student should be held to the highest academic and behavioral expectations.
- Understanding that a structured environment is essential for learning.
