POSITION SUMMARY: The Dean of the School of Health Professions will lead faculty members, students, and programs within the School, provide undergraduate and/or graduate student instruction from a Christian worldview, advise students concerning academic matters, and ensure the efficient and effective operation of the School within the policies and plans of BJU as a whole.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership/Administration
Serve as administrative officer of the School setting its vision and goals
Lead the School's efforts toward achieving university goals in coordinating the School's strategic planning and curriculum development
Create and maintain a collegial work environment in which trust and productivity are enhanced and serve as a mediator in resolving problems that may arise between faculty and division leadership or faculty and students.
Preside over all School meetings
Serve as a member of the Provost's Cabinet
Serve as chair of the School's advisory board
Participate as a contributing member of Administrative Conference
Lead the promotion of the School's marketing, fundraising advancement, and faculty recruitment efforts
In cooperation with OPRA and School division chairs, review and analyze end-of-year division academic assessment reports and create appropriate executive reports and summaries
Generate and implement the School's budget
Oversee effective utilization of School resources, whether financial, human, or physical (facilities)
Evaluate and oversee relevant programmatic accreditation efforts and certification requirements
Personnel
Participate in the identification and selection of prospective faculty or staff for the School
Establish and implement a personnel management system to include evaluation and development of the faculty
Recommend to the Provost faculty members to be elevated to positions of leadership within the School
Supervise, counsel, and encourage division chairs in their leadership efforts
Conduct annual portfolio reviews for division chairs
In conjunction with division chairs, mentor faculty members applying for advancement in rank
Coordinate in-service activities as appropriate for the professional development of faculty
Develop and maintain professional relationships with relevant individuals and organizations associated with academic programs within the School
Instructional
Promote pedagogical excellence and innovation within the School
Evaluate and recommend changes in academic programs and course content to Academic Council for review and approval
Integrate approved academic changes into the university catalog and Schedule of Classes
Continually monitor research and trends to make recommendations concerning curriculum, program and course updates
Other
Assist the university administration in other duties as assigned
Maintain on-going relationships with alumni and supporters of the University
Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses
Serve as student advisor
Maintain thorough and current curriculum vita
Communicate the religious beliefs of BJU to students and student affiliates
Answer questions concerning faith, doctrine and creed of BJU to constituents, students, or those inquiring about BJU
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrate excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrate the ability to foster teamwork and to work collaboratively with leadership throughout the university
Possess experience in managing a budget and operating within allocated resources
Exemplify a Biblical role model for students and colleagues
Required-Master's degree in a discipline related to the School's programs, plus appropriate experience in a field of Health Sciences
Preferred-Terminal degree in a discipline related to the School's programs, plus appropriate experience in the field of Health Sciences
