CDL Drivers transport construction equipment between locations using tractor trailers and heavy trucks. They must adhere to traffic and safety regulations while still making their deliveries on time. Drivers must hold a Class A commercial driver's license and maintain their medical certification as required. Driving large vehicles can be difficult, so CDL drivers must be comfortable operating heavy machinery and have the hand-eye coordination to do it proficiently. They are also legally required to have strong eyesight and hearing and be in good physical health.
Essential Functions
Loading, unloading, and securing of equipment for transport
Safely loads and unloads various types of equipment using proper tools and handling techniques
Ensures all cargo is balanced, tied down, and secured in compliance with company policies and federal safety regulations
Confirms that load documentation is accurate and equipment is protected during transit
Operates commercial vehicles on local and regional routes
Plans efficient travel paths considering traffic, weather, and delivery deadlines
Adapts to schedule changes and customer needs
Completes thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections
Identifies mechanical issues early and reports promptly
Keeps accurate inspection logs and follows safety protocols
Communicates professionally with customers to ensure a positive delivery experience
Provides updates on delivery timing, equipment condition, and special instructions
Addresses concerns promptly and courteously
Demonstrates safe equipment usage at point of delivery
Ensures customer understanding of safety features and operation
Maintains accurate logs, delivery records, and hours-of-service documentation
Follows all DOT regulations and company policies
