Position Overview

Sigma Systems is seeking a Dental Assistant for a full-time 3-month onsite contract opportunity in Boston, MA. This position supports a Pre-Doctoral Group Practice, working alongside dental students, faculty, and patients in a fast-paced academic clinical environment.

The ideal candidate is a licensed and certified Dental Assistant with strong clinical experience, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering compassionate patient care. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to an academic dental setting while supporting the education of future dental professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide chairside assistance to dental students using four-handed dentistry techniques.
  • Prepare operatories before procedures and disinfect treatment rooms between patients.
  • Prepare instrument cassettes for sterilization following established infection control protocols.
  • Organize, monitor, and replenish dental supplies to ensure uninterrupted clinic operations.
  • Provide coverage during evening and Saturday clinics as needed.
  • Review treatment plans with patients and explain dental procedures clearly.
  • Model effective patient communication and management techniques for dental students.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and empathy while delivering patient care.
  • Collaborate with faculty and clinical staff to ensure efficient clinic operations.
  • Support multiple students and manage up to eight operatories in a busy clinical environment.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications for communication and administrative tasks.

Qualifications

  • Current Massachusetts Dental Assistant License (Required)
  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA), or Formally Trained Dental Assistant (FTDA) (Required)
  • Current CPR Certification (Required)
  • Current Dental Radiology Certification (Required)
  • Previous experience as a Dental Assistant in a dental practice or clinical dental care environment
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and treatment planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to multitask
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced academic clinic environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Bilingual candidates are highly preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

  • Maintain Dental Assistant certification through continuing education (CE) courses.
  • Provide proof of required immunizations and health clearances, including:
    • Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR)
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella (Chickenpox)
    • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)
    • Annual Tuberculosis (TB) testing
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining high standards of patient care.
