Job Title: Dental Assistant Department: Dental FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Range: $17 - $22 per hour.

Position Summary The Dental Assistant will assist the Dentist in providing quality dental care of adult and pediatric patients in their general dentistry practice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to the following)

  • Assists the Dentist with any dental procedures and ensures appropriate supplies and equipment are available to perform care.
  • Responsible to set up and prepare dental treatment rooms.
  • Process and sterilize dental instruments between patient visits.
  • Make patients feel comfortable in dental chair.
  • Ensures appropriate forms for documentation are included in dental records and maintains confidentiality, security, filing, and physical safety of dental records.
  • Pulls and files patient charts on a daily basis.
  • Prepares new charts and maintains a predetermined organized dental record format.
  • Orders and takes inventory of dental supplies.
  • Autoclaves dental instruments and disinfects examination area as required by OSHA.
  • Prepares materials for and restorations, exposes radiographs, and processes dental x-ray films as directed by a dentist.
  • Familiarity with digital x-rays.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement Program.
  • Schedules and confirms appointments, comfortable answering telephone.
  • Triaging dental emergencies.
  • Comfortable with seeing children.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have excellent interpersonal/oral communication skills.
  • Must have good typing and computer skills.
  • Must carry a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Must have at least 1 year experience in a public health setting.
  • Current CPR Certification required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate of Dental Assistant from an accredited education institution preferred.
