The Indiana University (IU) School of Dentistry has been advancing oral health in the state and beyond since 1879, when it was founded as the Indiana Dental College. The Department of Comprehensive Care and Allied Professions at the Indiana University School of Dentistry consists of the divisions of Comprehensive Care, Allied Professions, and Operative Dentistry. These divisions work hand in hand to meet our communitys oral health needs by coupling the latest in innovative techniques and pedagogical expertise with student instruction and clinical patient care.

Job Summary

• Assists with patient care including setting up instruments, supplies, and materials for necessary procedures
• Sits chair-side to pass instruments and supports direct patient care as indicated by procedure
• Complies with infection control procedures by stripping, disinfecting, and bagging unit after patient care provided
• Enters findings and procedure information in patient chart as directed by faculty and students and reviews entries to ensure accuracy
• Requests instruments and supplies from other departments as directed by coordinator
• Inventories and restocks all supplies and instruments

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• Completion of dental assisting training program; OR
• 6 months of dental assisting experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

• Radiology license within 6 months of date of hire

SKILLS

Required

• Possesses strong technical aptitude
• Demonstrated customer service skills
• Strong verbal communication and listening skills
• Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
