We are currently hiring for a Dental Assistant for out St. Paul (Main Campus) Clinic location! This is a .8 FTE; four days Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts between the hours of 7:30am – 5:30pm. Benefit eligible.

Purpose of position

Assists the dentist/orthodontist/oral surgeon in providing dental services to patients in clinic and in the operating room. Coordinates appointment/operating room scheduling. Maintains an orderly and safe physical environment. Manage incoming patient calls to determine urgency and need to consult with the dentists/orthodontist/oral surgeon. Specific duties may vary; however, in all positions, serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams. We organize care around each patient’s condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning integrated teams.

Compensation & Benefits Information

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $26.68 to $40.05/hour, with a median wage of $33.37/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Core Responsibilities and Duties  

  • Coordinate and assists in the provision of dental care, orthodontia, and oral surgery to patients and their families in the clinic and in the operating room.
  • Assist with patient care in duties such as cleaning, polishing application or sealants and fluorides or as delegated by dentist.
  • Complete x-rays.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of dental and orthodontic software Eagle Soft and IMS.
  • Demonstrate strong time management skills.
  • Has experience or willingness to learn skills in Same Day Surgery and can follow OR procedures. Basic set up and sterilization processes. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Moving equipment from room to room in a timely manner. Effective communication skills with OR staff.
  • Has the following skills/experiences, or willingness to learn and demonstrate competence in the following skills related to orthodontia: taking impressions; pouring models; making retainers; fit orthodontia band; fabricate appliances; preform retainers and transpalatal appliances; remove and insert orthodontia wires; remove orthodontic appliances to include removal of cement on teeth; follow verbal instructions given by the Orthodontist and assist as needed with procedures; ability to discuss proper oral hygiene instructions.
  • Provides customer service and interacts with patient and families in a manner consistent with the principles of family focused care along with meeting the five Gillette Service Expectations of Courtesy & Respect, Image, Teamwork, Responsiveness and Communication.
  • Maintains effective working relationships which optimize patient care.
  • Maintains an orderly, safe environment including cleaning and storing of equipment, maintaining supplies.
  • Performs duties according to hospital and department policies and practices.
  • Triage incoming phone calls to determine urgency. Qualifications

Required

  • Completion of Dental Assistant program
  • Licensed as a Dental Assistant in Minnesota within 6 months of hire
  • CPR (BLS through the American Heart Association) required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients/families and staff
  • Demonstrated organizational, time-management and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to apply safe & effective body mechanics and patient transfer skills
