Job Summary
Serves as Dental Assistant and provides assistance to the Dentist, prepares patients for dental treatment, prepares materials and equipment for use for the Dentist, assists the Dentist in the treatment of patients, and keeps records of appointments and patients procedures. Assists dentists in the DBH/SEH clinics who perform a wide range of procedures in the area of restorative, prosthodontics, surgical endodontic and periodontal dentistry. Sterilizes instruments, materials, and equipment; prepares sterile trays for wide variety of dental treatment procedures. Provides assistance to Dentist with oral surgical duties. Performs prosthetic duties. Perform duties related to endodontics that involve the treatment of diseases. Assists the Dentist in restorative dentistry duties in treatment directed towards restoring tooth structure damaged by disease or inquiry. Independently performs radiographic duties. Assists in training of trainee Dental Assistants and Dental Assistant students.
Qualifications
This position requires specialized experience performing the duties of the position.
Licensures, Certifications and other requirements
Applicants must have Level One (1) Dental Assistant Certification through the District of Columbia Department of Health, Licensing Administration.
Minimum Education Requirement
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience
Experience working with instruments, materials and procedure used all in phases of restorative, prosthodontics, oral surgical, endodontics and periodontal treatment.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a controlled environment and involves some exposure to moderate risk of accidents and requires following basic safety precautions.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL AND CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK.
Position Designation: This position is deemed as "Safety Sensitive" pursuant to Section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations, in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying safety sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests:
Criminal background check;
Traffic record check (as applicable);
Pre-employment drug and alcohol test;
Reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test;
Post-accident or incident drug and alcohol test;
Random drug and alcohol test; and
Return-to-duty or follow-up drug and alcohol test.
This position is designated as Essential. As an Essential employee, you will be required to report to work or stay at work during a declared emergency.
RESIDENCY PREFERENCE
A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present proof of bona fide District residency and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
