SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Director of Dental Clinical Operations.

Salary Range

$16.56-$21.28 or per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Maximum salary upon new hire is $16.56.

Working Hours and/or Working Conditions

HOURS: 16 hours per week 2-3 days per week 14 weeks in the Fall and Winter Semester. 8 weeks in the Spring/Summer Semester WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a dental clinic and laboratory environment with regular exposure to dental instruments, sterilization equipment, chemicals, and biological materials. The position requires adherence to established safety, infection control, and OSHA protocols. Interaction with students, faculty, and staff occurs regularly in a fast-paced clinical setting. Physical Demands - Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time and to lift, carry, or move items weighing up to 20-30 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge: Knowledge of dental sterilization, infection control standards, and OSHA compliance within a clinical or academic dental setting. Knowledge of inventory management, supply ordering processes, and compliance documentation requirements. Skills: Skill in operating and maintaining sterilization equipment, managing inventory and supplies, and accurately completing required logs and records. Skill in supervising and guiding students in proper sterilization and infection control procedures while communicating effectively with faculty and staff. Abilities: Ability to maintain a safe, organized, and compliant sterilization and laboratory environment. Ability to support the Director of Dental Clinical Operations through delegated tasks while working independently and collaboratively.

Job Function

The Lab Assistant supports daily clinical and laboratory operations by assisting with inventory management, sterilization processes, compliance documentation, and student supervision. This role plays a key part in maintaining a safe, organized, and compliant clinical learning environment while providing operational support to the Director of Dental Clinical Operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with inventory management, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and monitoring dental supplies and materials.
  • Maintain organized storage areas to ensure timely access to clinical and laboratory supplies.
  • Assist with laboratory preparation and set up as delegated.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain sterilization equipment in accordance with established protocols.
  • Ensure proper cleaning, packaging, sterilization, and storage of instruments and equipment.
  • Supervise students in the sterilization area to ensure adherence to infection control standards and proper procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date sterilization logs, equipment maintenance records, and compliance documentation.
  • Support OSHA compliance by monitoring safety protocols, maintaining required logs, and ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Provide operational and administrative support to the Director of Dental Clinical Operations as assigned.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to supervise and guide students in a clinical environment.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: No prior professional experience required. Training will be provided. Preference will be given to a candidate with dental assisting education, certification, or relevant clinical experience.
