Schedule: This is an in-person position, Monday through Thursday, 7:15 AM - 6:00 PM with flexibility to meet program needs.

Wage Range: $42.00 - $63.00 hourly, Non-Exempt

Position Overview:

Provide comprehensive dental hygiene services to American Indian and Alaska Native patients and other vulnerable populations. Utilize your Expanded Practice Dental Hygiene permit to provide dental services within your scope of practice at several NARA and community locations, which requires travel 1-2 days per week within the Portland-Metro area. Assist with creating new or updated workflows, policies, and procedures based on clinic needs. The position is 4 days per week which includes in-clinic patient care and offsite patient care.

What you will do:

• Provide patient screening procedures, such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting, taking blood pressure, blood glucose and pulse
• Take and expose dental x-rays
• Remove calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth
• Apply preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants, fluoride, silver diamine fluoride)
• Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)
• Administer topical and local anesthesia.
• Administer nitrous oxide (current permit or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
• Maintain excellent asepsis and infection control
• Provide clinical services for mentally ill and/or drug affected/recovering patients
• Will travel to other NARA NW locations, as well as community outreach sites when needed (will attend the Diabetes Clinic one Saturday a month)
• Is responsible for transportation of dental products, materials and equipment as needed
• Work independently to run outreach schedules
