Job Overview
Client seeking a Dental Public Health Office Assistant to support daily operations within public health dental clinics. This role is responsible for providing administrative and front-office support, ensuring efficient patient scheduling, registration, insurance verification, and record management while delivering excellent customer service. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, team-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments.
  • Register patients and maintain accurate demographic information.
  • Perform patient check-in and check-out processes.
  • Make appointment reminder and follow-up calls.
  • Review documentation to determine eligibility for federal and state programs.
  • Enter and maintain patient information in health management systems and electronic dental records.
  • Coordinate referrals and assist with prior authorizations as required.
  • Process insurance documentation and obtain necessary approvals before services are rendered.
  • Scan, index, and maintain electronic dental records.
  • Balance the daily cash drawer and ensure accurate financial processing.
  • Educate patients on program rights and responsibilities.
  • Prepare required documentation to support efficient clinic workflow.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with healthcare regulations.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative work environment.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of customer service, administrative, clerical, or office support experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Experience working with multiple computer applications and electronic record systems.
  • Current valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) background check.

Education Substitution:

College coursework from an accredited institution may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis (up to two years).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Tennessee Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license.
  • Previous dental front office experience.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology and dental scheduling.
  • Experience with dental insurance verification and coding.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Dental Records (EDR) and healthcare management systems.
  • Ability to assist chairside during emergencies or staffing shortages.
