The Laboratory Department Assistant provides administrative, operational, and customer service support to the Laboratory leadership team and serves as a key resource in maintaining efficient laboratory workflows. This position supports both laboratory operations and leadership functions, requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent communication, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

The Department Assistant divides responsibilities between the Outpatient Laboratory and the Main Laboratory. Morning hours are primarily spent in the outpatient setting supporting patient-facing activities, while afternoon hours focus on laboratory administrative support and operational coordination.

The Laboratory Department Assistant is an essential member of the laboratory team, providing critical administrative and operational support that enhances efficiency, improves communication, supports patient access, and allows laboratory leadership and technical staff to focus on delivering high-quality patient care and laboratory services.

Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent (GED); Associates degree preferred.

Related Years of Experience Required: One-year administrative experience in health care preferred.

 Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with healthcare registration, scheduling, and electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Experience with Epic and Beaker systems preferred, or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Strong computer skills and software applications

Shift: Working 36 hours a week, Monday-Thursday working 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 pm; Friday 8:00-12:00pm
