    Job Description

    Position Summary:

    The Chair of the Department of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability serves as the administrative leader of the department. They are responsible for faculty hiring, faculty review and development, composite construction, curriculum development, operations, facilities, and budget management and oversight, staff supervision, supporting student success activities, as well as representing the department in admissions and recruitment, and a range of other duties and responsibilities necessary to the administration of the department.

    The teaching load for this appointment is generally one three-credit course per semester. Adjustments to this teaching load may be considered to support major projects and initiatives and must be approved by the dean.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Tenured, Associate or Professor in the Department of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability
    • Sustained commitment to academic and inclusive excellence as demonstrated by effective teaching, scholarship, and service.
    • Ability to manage many complex, time sensitive projects independently, carefully and efficiently.
    • Sustained record of service to the department, CAS, and UD community
    Preferred Qualifications:

    While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring successful experience in one or more of the following :

    • Administration of committees, centers, or programs in alignment with the values of the University of Dayton
    • Recruiting, mentoring, and supervision of faculty and staff from socially and culturally diverse backgrounds
    • Curriculum development and assessment
    • Effective stewardship of financial resources
    • Working creatively, collaboratively, and effectively with diverse constituencies, both within and outside the College and University to implement strategic priorities
    • Best practices for the promotion of an inclusive and welcoming classroom, academic organization, and department

    Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess:

    • Effective interpersonal communication skills
    • Effective oral communication skills
    • Effective organization skills
    • A Commitment to breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition and a commitment to social justice, inclusive excellence and of service to the community, university and profession
