Major/Essential Functions

  • Assist the Assistant Collections Manager-Ethnology in the research on each object considered for exhibition, including but not limited to information on the artist and culture represented.
  • Assist the Assistant Collections Manager-Ethnology in developing draft interpretive text to accompany individual objects and for general exhibition panels.
  • Assess objects for the rigors of exhibition.
  • Perform relocation inventories for collections objects being moved to/from exhibit.
  • Assist with photography for all objects going on and coming off exhibit.
  • Create detailed condition reports for objects going on exhibit and condition report updates for those coming off exhibit.
  • Coordinate In-House Loan documentation with Division staff and the Museum Registrar.
  • Assist Anthropology Division staff with the de-installation of the current exhibit.
  • Assist Anthropology and Exhibits Division staff with the installation of the new exhibit.
  • Develop and implement a public outreach program based on the content of the new exhibit.
  • Other duties as assigned, primarily pertaining to the Davies Collections.

About the Department and/or College

The Museum of Texas Tech University invites applications for the full-time position of Department Intern for the Anthropology Division.  The Anthropology Division has a 4.3 million object collection while overall the Museum has a 9 million+ multi-faceted collection in the arts, humanities, and natural sciences within a facility of over 250,000 square feet. The Museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, with active collecting, exhibition, and education programs. 

The 12 month (1-year), full-time internship is an active, hands-on position focused on exhibition development with the Davies Collections, part of the Ethnology Collections in the Anthropology Division.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
