Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. Three years of maintenance experience in heavy rail transit systems is required. The DTPW classification of Transit Instructor performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to the provisions of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Drug and Alcohol Regulations. Proof of education and work experience to meet minimum qualifications must be presented and will be verified.

Employees in this class conduct comprehensive vehicle maintenance training through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on field training, on-the-job instruction, and individual counseling. The position provides training on heavy rail vehicles, maintenance procedures, equipment, and safe work practices.
A significant component of the work involves developing and delivering accident prevention, safety, and operational training programs for Rail Vehicle Maintenance, Train Control, and Traction Power personnel. Employees may conduct training in both classroom and field environments, assess employee performance and training needs, provide technical guidance, and promote compliance with established safety procedures, maintenance standards, and transit operating requirements.
