Please note: The salary range above represents the earning potential for this position. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $55,517 to $73,980, based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

The Division of Highway Services (DHS) manages the maintenance of all transportation infrastructure within the County right-of-way, including more than 5,200 lane miles of rural, residential, and primary roadways, as well as nearly 1,000 miles of concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk. The Tree Maintenance Section manages an inventory of over 250,000 street trees and more than 200,000 trees in the rural areas.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is seeking a Depot Supply Coordinator for the Division of Highway Services(DHS). This employee will be responsible for researching, ordering, receiving, stocking, and issuing parts, materials, and supplies for Highway Maintenance activities.

What Youll Be Doing

As a Depot Supply Coordinator, this person will perform the following duties:

  • Maintaining contracts with vendors regarding orders and deliveries of stock and non-stock items purchased.
  • Assisting the supervisors in researching specifications and availability of materials and equipment.
  • Locating and expediting the acquisition of all special orders and out-of-stock items.
  • Tracking of invoices, contributing to monthly journal entries, and year-end financial procedures and reconciliation.
  • Inputting, monitoring, evaluating, and generating reports from an automated inventory control system.
  • Generating and maintaining warranty programs with outside vendors.
  • Preparing and overseeing the annual and periodic physical inventories.
  • Resolving inventory discrepancies.
  • Resolving questions/problems referred to them by employees.
  • The employee will also perform various clerical and shop operational functions, such as coordinating timesheet preparation, handling confidential information, answering phones, and operating a 2-way radio to maintain communication with the field staff.

Additional Information:

The individual selected for this position will be considered an "Essential Employee." Essential employees must report to work during a general emergency or on liberal leave. This individual selected is REQUIRED to work overtime during inclement weather situations and emergencies, which may include overnight stays.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: One(1) year of experience in storekeeping procedures, including researching, ordering, receiving, checking, stocking, inventorying, and issuing supply items, and one (1) year of experience as a clerical employee in an office environment utilizing communications equipment.

Education: Graduation from High School or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Physical Ability: Ability to perform some physically demanding work, such as prolonged standing and lifting and carrying or otherwise moving tools, parts, supplies, and related equipment weighing 20 to 50 and occasionally items that weigh over 50 pounds, to include occasional movement of heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds or more using lifts, hand trucks, dollies, and other workers for assistance with heavier items.

License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicants state of residence and a certificate for forklift and/or other vehicle, which may require a Commercial Drivers License, as required by the position of assignment.

Medical Protocol: This position requires completion of a pre-employment Medical History Form and a drug screening to assess your ability to safely perform the essential duties of the role.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

All Applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be rated "Qualified," placed on the Referred List, and may be considered for an interview.

Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following:

  • Experience in storekeeping procedures, including researching, ordering, receiving, checking, stocking, inventorying, and issuing supply items.
  • Experience in radio communications with field staff during storm emergency operations.
  • Experience in computer applications using Microsoft software to update and keep accurate records, as well as timesheet preparation and related matters.
  • Experience communicating with vendors, residents, employees, and other agencies both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience using MC311 or a similar Customer Service Management System.

Leave Benefits

Our generous leave package starts with non-MLS permanent and term employees earning 15 days of sick leave and 15 days of annual leave in their first year, as well as up to three additional personal days each calendar year.
