The Salisbury VA Health Care System has an exciting opening for an energetic, driven, and visionary leader in healthcare to serve as Physician - Deputy Associate Chief of Staff Medicine Service.

Serving more than 90,000 Veterans, the health care system includes the W.G. "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, along with community-based outpatient clinics in Charlotte and Kernersville. Designated as a Level 1A complexity facility by the Veterans Health Administration, Salisbury VA provides a comprehensive range of services, including primary and specialty care, mental health services, rehabilitation, extended care, and social support-all tailored to meet the unique needs of veterans. POSITION DETAILS : The Salisbury VA Health Care System is seeking an accomplished physician leader to serve as Associate Chief of Medicine (ACOM) in support of the Medical Service. The ACOM, in collaboration with the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), provides clinical and administrative oversight to ensure access, efficiency, and high-quality care throughout the Medical Service. This includes supporting compliance with VHA, VISN, and facility policies, as well as accreditation standards. Key responsibilities include participating in provider recruitment, onboarding, and privileging; conducting continuous quality assessment and performance evaluations; and supporting initiatives to enhance patient care services. The ACOM will act as an alternate to the ACOS on professional boards, committees, and in labor relations, providing independent recommendations on clinical practices and contributing to regulatory compliance efforts. The ACOM assists with staff education and development, facilitates peer review and mortality reviews, and ensures timely, accurate medical record documentation. The incumbent will support medical staff in adopting new technologies and best practices, and may chair or represent the service at various internal committees. Additional duties include collaborating on Medical Service reports, mentoring providers, and serving as an attending physician within approved privileges. This leadership position offers the opportunity to shape the direction of the Medical Service, drive continuous quality improvement, and champion excellence in Veteran care across the Salisbury VA Healthcare System.

Requirements

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

  • NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.)
