GENERAL SUMMARY
The Kalamazoo County Sheriffs Office KCSO is a fast-paced modern and multi-faceted law enforcement agency committed to protecting the community and enhancing public safety. The Sheriffs Office offers a wide range of specialized units including K9 SWAT School Resource Deputies Detective Bureau and Crime Reduction Team.
As a Sheriffs Deputy assigned to Road Patrol you will serve as a vital member of a professional team-oriented agency dedicated to law enforcement crime prevention and community service. Deputies are entrusted with significant responsibility requiring sound judgment integrity and professionalism while responding to diverse situations and serving the people of Kalamazoo County.

Less than 12 months experience $29.62 12-23 months experience as a full-time police officer $31.21 24-35 months experience as a full-time police officer $32.80
HIRING INCENTIVE
MCOLES-Certified Officers $5,000 paid after successful completion of Field Training Additional $5,000 after completion of a one-year probationary period
MCOLES-Certifiable Academy Candidates $5,000 hiring bonus Additional $5,000 upon successful completion of an accredited Police Academy
KCSO Field Training Program One-year probationary period All completed concurrently This program will continue until all funds are exhausted.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Patrol assigned areas to deter detect and respond to criminal activity Enforce state laws and traffic regulations Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service Investigate crimes and incidents Collect and preserve evidence Interview victims suspects and witnesses Secure crime scenes Prepare clear accurate and detailed reports Exercise independent judgment in complex and dynamic situations Provide testimony in court as required Assist and interact professionally with the public Perform related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 20 years of age or older High School Diploma or Equivalency Must Possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver License MCOLES Certified or MCOLES Certifiable Successfully pass a drug screen comprehensive physical medical examination and background investigation
Preference will be given to candidates with either associate or bachelors degree in criminal justice, Psychology or a closely related field Military training or previous experience in a correctional setting is desirable
Any individual with any of the following is ineligible for consideration for employment: A felony conviction pending felony or misdemeanor charge Domestic violence conviction or any outstanding warrant
