How you make a difference in this role:
As the Deputy Commissioner of Operations will provide executive leadership for one of the State's largest and most complex real estate portfolios. Serving as a strategic advisor to the Commissioner, you will lead the teams responsible for planning, developing, operating, maintaining, and optimizing State-owned and leased facilities across Tennessee. By overseeing efforts that enhance operational performance and customer experience with the department, the Deputy Commissioner directly influences the quality and effectiveness of government operations across Tennessee. This position reports directly to the Commissioner and serves as a key member of the Department's executive leadership team. The position offers a flexible work schedule, with a starting monthly salary of $15,992, based on qualifications and experience. Key Responsibilities:
Provide executive leadership for statewide real estate strategy, operations, and overall performance, ensuring the effective management of Tennessee's owned and leased real estate portfolio.
Serve as a strategic advisor to the Commissioner, the Governors Office, and the State Building Commission on major real estate policy, capital priorities, and portfolio decisions.
Direct the planning, acquisition, development, renovation, leasing, operation, maintenance, and disposition of State-owned and leased facilities.
Oversee major capital improvement projects from planning through construction and occupancy, ensuring projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable regulations.
Guide statewide workplace strategy, portfolio optimization, and space utilization initiatives to maximize the value of State real estate assets while supporting agency missions.
Oversee facilities management programs that promote safe, efficient, sustainable, and accessible environments for State employees and visitors.
Support the development of department-wide analytics to drive data-focused decision-making and identify operational efficiencies.
Champion department-wide customer service initiatives to enhance customer experience.
Provide executive leadership to directors, managers, and multidisciplinary teams responsible for architecture, construction, facilities management, leasing, workplace planning, customer service, data analytics, and related operations.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with State agencies, constitutional officers, local governments, contractors, consultants, and other external partners.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
Five to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in one or more of the following areas:
Real estate management
Facilities management
Capital project management
Architecture
Engineering
Construction management
Commercial real estate
Public administration
Portfolio management
Demonstrated experience leading large, multidisciplinary organizations with significant operational and financial responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Real Estate, Finance, or a closely related field.
