KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the administration of departmental operations;
Coordinates and supervises, various intra-agency functions and operations as required;
Assists in the preparation of the departmental budget and the maintenance of fiscal controls;
Assists the Commissioner in the application and enforcement of agency policies and procedures;
Acts for and in behalf of the Commissioner in the Commissioner's absence;
Coordinates various policies with State, Federal and other County Departments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
EITHER:
(a) Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and six (6) years of full-time paid experience in a health, education or social service agency, four (4) years of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or,
OR
(b) Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and six (6) years of experience in an administrative or management position where there is responsibility for planning, directing and coordinating the work of a substantial staff working in several units or performing several separate functions.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Post graduate education at a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university in social work, public administration, hospital administration, educational administration, or business administration, shall be the equivalent, on a year-for-year basis up to two years, of the above prescribed experience.
*** However, no such post-graduate education can be substituted for the administrative or supervisory experience required.
REQUIRED APPROVAL:
All appointments to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Social Services must be approved by the State Commissioner of Social Services.
