CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Deputy Clerk I Magistrate Court
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to provide administrative and clerical support to an assigned judicial office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs customer service functions by telephone, by mail, and in person; provides information and assistance regarding court activities, services, procedures, documentation, fees, case status/disposition, or other issues; reviews and accepts legal documents in accordance with court procedures and prescribed time frames; distributes forms and documentation; responds to routine and complex questions or complaints; researches problems/complaints; and initiates problem resolution.
Process various court-related documentation in accordance with court procedures and time frames: assists in preparing, receiving, responding to, and processing court orders, continuances, case initiation documents, case dispositions, and other legal documents.
Attends court and enters data from court. Performs computer related tasks requiring broad working knowledge of a wide variety of standard computer application, i.e. word processing, spreadsheet programs, calendar, and electronic file maintenance.
May assist in leading work activities of co-workers; confers with co-workers and assists with problems/situations; provides technical support and may assist with training new staff, interns, and vendors.
Participates in special projects as requested by supervision; may coordinate staff activities with assigned unit.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
TYPING SPEED: 35 wpm preferred
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by five (5) months of clerical and/or customer service experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light to moderate work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds) and occasionally heavy weight (20-50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Under normal conditions essential functions are usually performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
