The Position
OPEN EXAMINATION- ONE-YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD
This current recruitment is for the Long Range Planning Section of the Community Development Department. The eligible list from this recruitment may be utilized to fill other vacancies within the the Community Development Department.
Job Description: Under general direction, this upper management level position manages one or more of the following functions within the Community Development Department, including but not limited to: Current Planning, Long Range Planning, Neighborhood Services, Licensing, Mobility, Community Outreach, Building & Safety, Plan Review/Engineering, Field Inspections, Permit Services Center, Homeless Services, Housing Assistance, Housing Development and Preservation, Centralized Customer Service, Administration, and Development Concierge. Provides staff support to the City Council, Housing Authority, Commissions, Boards, and Committees as required.

This position reports to the Director of Community Development Department.

Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Education:
Bachelors Degree in City or Urban Planning, Architecture, Engineering, Geography, Economics, Public or Business Administration or a related field is required.
A Masters Degree in a related field is highly desirable.
Experience:
Six years of comprehensive management-level experience in the field of community development or related disciplines is required. This experience must include three years as a division or section head, including supervisory experience over a large, complex governmental organization similar to that of the City of Glendale.
Comprehensive Management experience in Long-Range Planning is highly desirable.
Transportation:
A valid California Class C Driver's License is required.

Selection Process
EVALUATION OF APPLICATION: Submitted Application will be reviewed to ensure applicants meet the minimum requirements. Only the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process.
ORAL INTERVIEW: (Weight: 100%)To evaluate the applicants experience, education, and general background for the position.
Candidates must pass the exam with a minimum score of 70.00% in order to be placed on the eligible list.

Examinations will assess evaluate the candidates education, experience, knowledge and skills related to the job.
