The Deputy Finance Director assists in managing and overseeing the financial operations of the organization. This role supports the Finance Director in directing the department’s activities, ensuring financial integrity, and maintaining compliance with governmental accounting standards. The Deputy Finance Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of financial functions, including budgeting, auditing, accounting, and financial reporting, while providing leadership to the finance team.
Hours: Monday-Friday with comp time opportunities. There is some remote work possibilities after 6 months and is based on the needs of the department.To be successful in this role during the first year:
The Deputy Director will serve as a key member of the Finance leadership team, providing direct supervision and close collaboration with the accounting staff while allowing the Director to focus on high-level financial strategy, policy development, and long-term planning. This role will provide guidance and mentorship to a skilled and motivated team to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the accounting function.
The Deputy Director will act as the primary liaison with external auditors, overseeing audit activities and ensuring clear and timely communication. They will play a major role in the preparation of the County’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and assist the Director with the development of the County’s annual budget documents.
Within the first year, the Deputy Director is expected to develop a strong working knowledge of the County’s complex fund accounting system and help maintain and strengthen the confidence and trust established with the County Board, County Executive, and the broader community.
