Description

Under limited supervision, prepares court orders, maintains paperwork flow, and processes court orders in the District Clerks office.

Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepares court orders for defendants' signature after judgment is rendered.
  • Processes court orders by receiving orders from attorneys or the public, reviewing orders, and forwarding to the appropriate judge for signature.
  • Types court orders to docket sheet, posts to computer, and notifies appropriate parties.
  • Processes all indictments from Grand Jury by receiving documents and setting them up on Criminal Case management system.
  • Maintains court files such as filing, changing attorney names, and making docket sheet entries.
  • Creates, maintains, and closes out cases.
  • Oversees storage and retrieval of criminal files.
  • Issues bench warrants, subpoenas, capias, and other legal documents ordered by the Court.
  • Processes jury calls and reschedules jurors; prepares jury panels and provides jurors with necessary documentation.
  • Posts and images all incoming mail and documents.
  • Assists court personnel, customers, and other government entities in research and other matters pertaining to the District Clerk's office.
  • Answers phones and assists customers; receives payments, provides receipts, and balances till.
  • Remains aware of all laws and changes in laws, procedures, and requirements which apply to courts and judicial proceedings pertaining to the District Clerks office.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and conferences as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Experience and Training Guidelines:

High school diploma or equivalent; AND two years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Knowledge of:

  • County and state legal principles, practices, and procedures regarding the court system.
  • State statutes and codes.
  • Code procedures.
  • Legal practices and procedures.
  • Legal terminology.
  • Court settings.
  • Principles and practices of effective employee supervision.
  • Department policies, procedures, and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.

Skill in:

  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, external public agencies and organizations, and the general public.
  • Using initiative, discretion, and decision making within established procedures, guidelines, and rules.
  • Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Performing effectively under stressful working conditions.
  • Developing effective work teams and providing effective customer service.
  • Multi-tasking.
  • Operating a personal computer and various software applications, including word processing and spreadsheets, and typing 30 WPM.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Texas Driver's License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a traditional office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
