    Correctional Deputy Trainee ($52,477.98 $54,052.34 Annually)

    Duties

    A correctional deputy works within the Sheriff's jail system to control inmates by performing duties such as:

    • Administer medication to inmates as prescribed by a physician
    • Control contraband through routine facility and inmate searches
    • Maintain security through key, door, tool and equipment control
    • Perform business and record keeping functions
    • Photograph inmates, take fingerprints
    • Prepare and distribute paperwork, route booking sheets
    • Prepare inmates for transport by applying restraint equipment and inspecting vehicles for safety
    • Receive inmates, process inmate correspondence and phone calls
    • Supervise inmates during meals and recreational activities


    Deputy Sheriff Trainee ($63,976.85 $93,854.18 Annually)

    Duties

    A deputy sheriff will perform a wide variety of law enforcement functions:

    • Build relationships among local communities
    • Enforce state laws and local ordinances and provide traffic enforcement
    • Investigate criminal acts and arrest criminal offenders
    • Patrol assigned beat areas
    • Prepare incident reports and ensure the safe storage of held property and/or evidence
    • Serve and administer civil and criminal documents
    • Testify in court
    • Transport inmates
    • Work on special enforcement details

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Graduation from high school, possession of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. examination.


    License: Possession of a valid California Drivers License.
    Legality for Employment: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.

    AND


    CORRECTIONAL DEPUTY TRAINEE
    Age: Must be at least 18 years old.

    OR

    DEPUTY SHERIFF TRAINEE
    Age: Must be at least 20 years and 9 months old at the start of the academy.
