Overview
The Dermatology Assistant provides both clinical and documentation support to ensure efficient, high-quality dermatologic care. Working under the direction of the nurse leader and supervising provider, the Dermatology Assistant integrates the responsibilities of a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) and a Clinical Scribe, with added dermatology-specific tasks such as biopsy preparation, assisting with procedures, and post-visit coordination.
This is a full-time, 40hr per week, benefitted position.

Responsibilities
Prepares and support patient visits by greeting patients, preparing exam rooms, reviewing patient charts, and assisting with the rooming process while maintaining a clean and organized clinical environment. Documents clinical encounters in real time during exams, procedures, and education sessions, including patient history, provider findings, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up plans in the electronic medical record (EMR). Assists with dermatologic procedures such as biopsies and minor excisions by preparing instruments and handling specimens under provider supervision. Maintains clinical photography by taking, labeling, and securely uploading patient images according to hospital policy and HIPAA standards. Coordinates post-visit tasks such as pended orders, specimen delivery, lab submissions, and scheduling follow-up visits in accordance with provider directives. Supports regulatory readiness by performing daily quality checks on equipment, monitoring expiration dates, maintaining supplies, and participating in safety and compliance huddles. Promotes effective team communication with providers, nurses, and multidisciplinary staff to ensure patient flow, accurate documentation, and timely follow-up. Provides mentorship and workflow support by assisting with onboarding and training new Dermatology Assistants, maintaining EMR templates, and ensuring consistency in clinical processes. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
