Job Description

SUMMARY

Follows the district's instructions in food preparation, cooling and serving food with school cafeterias by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession; upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives, regulations, GISD school board policies, as well as local, state and federal regulations.

Attends job-related training classes and workshops.

Practices procedures in food preparation, use and care of equipment and personal habits to assure that sanitation standards are met.

Follows standards of safety in preparing, storing, and serving food.

Follows the managers instructions in producing and serving food.

Follows managers instructions in portioning, garnishing, and serving meals.

Participates in implementing promotion of special school and community activities consistent with board policy.

Follows procedures in personnel matters.

Demonstrates the ability to work with the school community.

Participates in implementing cost containment measures while maintaining quality.

Performs other duties as directed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma preferred or currently enrolled in a GED program

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must complete each year 4 hours of annual continuing education/training topics as determined by Food and Nutrition Service.

  • Must be food handler certified

  • As per the USDA Food Code and the New Mexico Environment Department of Health regulation 7.6.2.8 NMAC all food employees handling Time and Temperature controlled foods must have a food handler certification card from New Mexico.

  • Employee is responsible for maintaining certification and ensuring the certification is obtained from an accredited program. Employees are given 30 calendar days from the beginning of employee's employment to obtain the certification. Certification should be valid for 3 years. All employees renewing certification must schedule a day with the SNP Field Compliance Coordinator to attend the food handler class or must set up a date and time to do the training through the recommended online site. Should employee fail to obtain or maintain their certification, or fail to complete required ongoing training, their employment may be terminated.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
