Leo is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Leo will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

The Design and Construction TPM will be a key member of the Launch Operations team, responsible for leading the planning, design, and construction of Leo"s expanding network infrastructure. This role is integral to the development and implementation of Leo"s Launch Operations strategy, including both new construction and facility expansions. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, the position requires expertise in managing complex construction projects while maintaining Amazon"s high standards for quality and efficiency.

Key job responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end project management for Leo builds, retrofits, and expansions, including scope definition, schedule management, and budget oversight.
  • Lead architectural and engineering design processes, ensuring compliance with Amazon specifications and regulatory requirements. Review and approve design changes, evaluate value engineering opportunities, and develop solutions for emerging requirements.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing safety, quality, and budget requirements while assessing building conditions and implementing sustainable practices.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with architects, contractors, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Influence cross-functional teams through constructive dialogue and provide regular status updates to stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Develop, monitor, and forecast project budgets while managing procurement processes, ensuring competitive bid practices, and overseeing contract modifications.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, maintaining compliance with contracts and regulations.
  • Drive standardization and process improvement initiatives in costs, quality, health & safety, and sustainability.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills in managing teams and coordinating with various stakeholders.
  • This role requires 25% travel and availability to work office daily. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office.

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
