Short DescriptionBowman has an opportunity for a Design Engineer I, PV & BESS to join our team remotely.PurposeEfficiently execute various levels of system design, drafting, and analysis pertaining to large scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects with a team of engineers and various project stakeholders.ResponsibilitiesReceive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially on difficult assignments and possible solutions. Work is completed using standard engineering techniques and design principles and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional judgement.Assist with the marketing of the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.Participate in the design and development of electrical plan sets, including site layouts and equipment details.Learn and enhance plan-set templates, standards, and best practices.Draft equipment layouts, installation details, and single‑line diagrams (AC, DC, Auxiliary Power, etc.).Coordinate with design engineers and collaborate with other engineering disciplines as needed.Coordinate the design of electrical systems with licensed Engineers.Identify issues on projects and collaborate with the client, co‑workers, and others to execute effective solutions.Interact with team members, clients, vendors, installation contractors, and others to create efficient and cohesive designs.Generate single line diagrams under the supervision of senior design engineers.Complete electrical calculations under the supervision of senior design engineers.Report the status of progress on each project to managers on a weekly or daily basis as needed. Attend weekly management meetings as requested.Attend coordination and design meetings, as requested.Appropriately request technical support as needed on projects and keep on schedule.Occasionally provide estimates of time to perform tasks.Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.Communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, and clients.Organize and prioritize multiple tasks to complete the design in a sequential efficient manner.Accurately produce construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget.Address comments from clients, AHJ's and other review authorities; adjust designs accordingly under the supervision of senior design engineers.If directed, review all project‑related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFIs, construction submittals).Work within established project budgets.Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of all codes applicable to the discipline.Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of AutoCAD software.Success Metrics and CompetenciesHigh level of integrity in every aspect of the work being performed.Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and external partners.Highly motivated and problem‑solving attitude.Strong sense of urgency in responding to constituents.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Strong work ethic and commitment to quality.Self‑reliance and ability to operate independently with limited direction.Strong marketing/business development skills and mindset.Commitment to promoting the reputation of the company through quality of work.Aspirations to grow professionally and advance within the company.Commitment to driving profitability and growth.Ability to effectively manage multiple time‑sensitive tasks.QualificationsBachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related engineering discipline required at time of employment.Entry level position, no prior experience required, although professional experience is preferred.Solar PV and Energy storage system design experience preferred.NABCEP certification preferred.High proficiency in AutoCAD required.Experience with PV system modeling software is preferred.Ability to perform shading analyses is preferred.Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner is required.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.BenefitsSalary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience.
