Design Engineer | Mason, MI

Salary Range: $72,000 - $111,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops manufacturing fixtures, tooling, and equipment.
  • Creates detailed CAD models and engineering drawings for fabrication.
  • Performs design calculations and simulations to validate product performance.
  • Collaborates with production teams to optimize designs for manufacturability and assembly.
  • Conducts root cause analysis and implements design solutions for manufacturing defects.
  • Manages design projects from concept through production launch.
  • Selects and specifies materials and components for new and existing products.
Recommended Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in product design within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD).
  • Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining).
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate complex requirements into practical designs.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience with CAD software beyond basic modeling, such as advanced surfacing or generative design tools.
  • Familiarity with specific manufacturing processes relevant to the company (e.g., injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, additive manufacturing).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic FEA simulations for design validation.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
  • A portfolio showcasing personal projects or contributions to open-source hardware.
