Design Engineer

PGS Worldwide is seeking a Design Engineer in Palmdale, CA for a one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.

The Design Engineer will support aircraft hardware integration and final assembly by reviewing engineering models and technical drawings, identifying producibility issues, and helping define build sequences and operations procedures. This role requires extensive aircraft assembly or integration experience, recent 3DX or CATIA V5 experience, and the ability to work independently within an Integrated Product Team environment.

Required Skills

• 10+ years of aircraft subsystem or structures assembly/integration design experience.
• 5+ years of applied aircraft experience, such as production support, maintenance, or testing.
• 4+ years of recent 3DX or CATIA V5 experience.
• Experience supporting development, prototype, first-article, or new product introduction programs.
• Experience reviewing engineering models and technical drawings for producibility.
• Ability to identify design errors, omissions, and deficiencies.
• Ability to recommend design layout revisions or improvements to engineers and designers.
• Experience working in a model-based engineering environment.
• Strong understanding of flight hardware and aircraft assembly processes.
• Ability to define operations procedures and build sequences.
• Ability to work independently and make critical program decisions.
• Ability to work effectively within an Integrated Product Team.
• Strong communication and technical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to travel periodically.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with complete integrated air vehicle designs.
• On-vehicle testing and troubleshooting experience for aircraft subsystems.
• Liaison engineering experience.
• Hands-on production or shop floor support experience.
• Manufacturing assembly work instruction authoring experience.
• Jet engine integration, service, or maintenance familiarity.
• Wire harness and interconnect installation or integration experience.
• Aircraft fuel systems experience.
• Metallic part machining knowledge.
• Delmia software experience.
• Aviation maintenance experience, A&P license, or similar background.
• Engineering degree.

What You’ll Do

• Support hardware integration and final aircraft assembly activities.
• Review engineering models and technical drawings for producibility.
• Identify design issues and recommend improvements.
• Work in 3DX and/or CATIA V5 to support model-based engineering activity.
• Define operations procedures and build sequences for aircraft assembly.
• Provide input on design concepts, specification requirements, equipment use, and assembly or service techniques.
• Coordinate liaison actions with engineering, design, manufacturing, and IPT stakeholders.
• Investigate manufacturing or design deficiencies and help initiate corrective action.
• Support production, prototype, first-article, and new product introduction efforts.

Pay

• $30.00–$110.00/hour
