Job Title: Design Release Engineer

Job Description

The Design Release Engineer supports a team of Design Engineers by creating, updating, and releasing engineering drawings and related documentation for electromechanical products. This role focuses on high-volume drawing generation, engineering change implementation, revision management, and CAD support across multiple projects. The position increases overall engineering throughput by taking ownership of drawing-intensive work so Design Engineers can concentrate on design development and technical problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Create and release new engineering drawings in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Update and revise existing engineering drawings to reflect design changes, corrections, and improvements.
  • Apply GD&T and established drawing standards consistently to all released documentation.
  • Create detailed 2D drawings and perform associated 3D CAD modeling work to support product development.
  • Generate complete drawing packages for electromechanical products, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Support engineering change implementation by updating drawings and documentation in line with revision control processes.
  • Perform drawing work for wiring harnesses and flexible wiring assemblies, ensuring clear and accurate documentation.
  • Develop drawings for bus bars, sheet metal components, and large mechanical structures.
  • Work within a PLM environment to manage drawing releases, revisions, and version control for multiple projects.
  • Collaborate closely with Design Engineers to understand requirements, design intent, and necessary documentation updates.
  • Proactively communicate with engineers to obtain missing or unclear information, ensuring continuous progress and productivity.
  • Support multiple Design Engineers simultaneously by prioritizing tasks and managing drawing workloads efficiently.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with engineering standards, configuration management practices, and project timelines.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience creating and releasing engineering drawings for mechanical or electromechanical products.
  • Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and established drawing standards.
  • Hands-on experience using professional 3D CAD software for 2D drafting and 3D modeling.
  • Experience working with engineering documentation and formal revision control processes.
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems and version control concepts.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting multiple stakeholders and projects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with Design Engineers and cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with NX, SolidWorks or CATIA for mechanical design and drafting.
  • Experience creating drawings for wiring harnesses or flexible wiring assemblies.
  • Experience supporting electronics-related designs and associated documentation.
  • Experience developing drawings for bus bars.
  • Experience documenting sheet metal components, including detailed fabrication drawings.
  • Experience supporting engineering change management processes within a structured environment.
  • Experience working within a PLM-managed product development environment.

Work Environment

This role operates in a high-volume drawing and documentation environment, where the primary focus is on the accurate execution and release of engineering documentation rather than ownership of full product design. The position involves a combination of 2D drafting and 3D CAD work using professional CAD and PLM tools. The Design Release Engineer supports approximately 20 or more Design Engineers across multiple projects, working in a fast-paced setting that emphasizes precision, consistency, and timely release of drawings and revisions.
