Overview
We are seeking two Electric Distribution Designers to support electric distribution projects focused on storm hardening, grid modernization, and utility system improvements. This contract-to-hire opportunity is primarily remote, with preference given to candidates located on the East Coast. The ideal candidate will have experience designing overhead and underground electric distribution systems and be proficient with industry-standard utility design software.
Responsibilities
- Design overhead and underground electric utility projects that improve and strengthen the power grid.
- Support electric distribution projects including:
- Storm hardening and system improvement initiatives.
- Moving pole lines out of inaccessible areas.
- Reframing and rebuilding distribution lines to improve system reliability and reduce storm-related outages.
- Residential and commercial new construction.
- Solar farm and solar panel projects.
- Reconductoring projects.
- Line removals.
- Fault sensor installations.
- General electric distribution design and utility improvement projects.
- Create design packages, construction drawings, calculations, cost estimates, permits, and easement documentation.
- Review field data, maps, and utility records to develop accurate, high-quality designs.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedules and budgets.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, and utility partners to ensure projects progress efficiently.
- Participate in virtual and occasional in-person meetings to discuss project status, technical issues, and solutions.
- Follow utility design standards, safety requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
- Perform quality reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness before submitting design packages.
- Track project milestones and communicate project updates with internal teams.
- Occasionally visit project sites to gather field information and support project activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in a technical field or 4–6 years of related electric utility distribution design experience.
- Experience designing electric distribution systems.
- Proficiency with one or more of the following utility design software platforms:
- arcFM
- ArcMap
- Infor
- PoleForeman
- AutoCAD
- GWD
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in a technical-related field.
- Experience supporting storm hardening, electric distribution system improvements, or utility infrastructure projects.
- Experience with overhead and underground electric distribution design.
- Candidates located on the East Coast are preferred; however, fully remote candidates will be considered.
- Previous PPL experience is not required.
