The Desktop Technology Refresh Administrator supports the replacement of desktop computers across multiple FBI enterprise environments. This position performs on-site removal of existing equipment, installation and configuration of replacement desktops, and validation of workstation functionality.
The administrator coordinates with project leadership, site representatives, and enterprise IT teams to complete refresh activities according to approved schedules, security requirements, and FBI standard operating procedures while minimizing disruption to users.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate site access, installation schedules, equipment readiness, and user availability before performing refresh activities.
Verify replacement equipment against shipment records, deployment assignments, and asset inventories.
Document existing workstation configurations and identify approved requirements for user data, applications, and peripherals.
Power down and disconnect legacy desktops while retaining keyboards, mice, monitors, speakers, and other peripherals designated for reuse.
Apply required disposal or deinstallation labels and move removed equipment to approved staging locations.
Maintain asset accountability and chain-of-custody records for equipment awaiting disposition.
Unbox and install replacement desktops, reconnect approved peripherals, and manage packaging removal according to site procedures.
Apply approved workstation images, drivers, patches, and configuration settings.
Join replacement desktops to the appropriate enterprise domain or management environment using authorized procedures.
Install and validate approved applications, endpoint security tools, and device management agents.
Support authorized user data and profile transfers when included in the refresh scope.
Apply required asset tags and classification markings appropriate to the assigned environment.
Validate startup, user authentication, network connectivity, application access, and peripheral functionality.
Troubleshoot installation, imaging, domain membership, hardware, and configuration issues; escalate problems requiring enterprise administrator support.
Keep equipment, data, credentials, and installation media within their authorized enterprise environments.
Update deployment trackers, service tickets, asset records, and completion documentation.
Provide daily progress updates identifying completed installations, outstanding issues, and schedule constraints.
Obtain user or site representative acknowledgment and provide basic orientation following installation.
Required Qualifications:
Experience supporting desktop deployment, hardware refresh, or enterprise workstation administration.
Hands-on experience installing and troubleshooting Windows desktops and associated peripherals.
Experience with workstation imaging, software installation, drivers, and endpoint configuration.
Working knowledge of Active Directory domain membership, user profiles, and network connectivity troubleshooting.
Ability to follow documented installation procedures and security requirements across multiple enterprise environments.
Experience maintaining accurate asset inventories, service tickets, and deployment records.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with users, site representatives, and technical teams.
Ability to work independently onsite and coordinate effectively with a distributed project team.
Ability to meet the clearance, suitability, training, and access requirements specified by the contract.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience supporting FBI, Department of Justice, or other federal enterprise IT environments.
Experience with Microsoft Configuration Manager, Microsoft Intune, or comparable endpoint deployment tools.
Experience supporting separate enterprise domains or environments with different security requirements.
CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or relevant Microsoft certifications.
Experience with equipment disposition procedures and controlled asset handling.
Work Requirements
Perform on-site work at multiple designated facilities.
Support approved maintenance windows, including occasional evening or weekend activities.
Move, stage, and install desktop equipment using safe handling practices and approved assistance when needed.
Follow facility entry requirements and coordinate access in advance.
Use only authorized accounts, tools, media, and procedures for each environment.
Performance Expectations:
Successful performance includes completing assigned refresh activities within the approved schedule, maintaining accurate asset accountability, validating replacement workstation functionality, documenting and escalating issues promptly, and securing user or site acceptance.
Location: Onsite at designated FBI facilities; travel between locations may be required
