Under general supervision, receives prisoners to process, guard, escort, inspect, and search for unauthorized items in a 24/7 work environment operation.

Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation or GED.
Two (2) years of recent experience in security operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Knowledge of correctional security techniques and practices.
· Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and orders governing detention facilities.
· Knowledge of safety rules and regulations, including first aid.
· Skill in the use of a personal computer and related software, a two-way radio, and standard office
equipment.
· Skill in the use of specialized equipment such as electronic security and monitoring equipment,
restraining devices, breath analyzer and metal detectors.
· Ability to apply personal defense techniques.
· Ability to perform arithmetic computations.
· Ability to communicate effectively.
· Ability to learn and follow oral and written instructions.
· Ability to enforce regulations.
· Ability to administer basic first aid.
· Ability to learn and understand behavior patterns of incarcerated persons.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Special Requirements:
Candidates considered for placement in this classification may be subject to a Criminal Background Investigation based on the requirements of the position.
Physical Demands
Work is performed primarily in indoor and outdoor environments (penal institution). Some work requires travel to other work sites with exposure to seasonal weather conditions. Must be able to perform major duties which involve frequent walking, standing and bending; and restraining prisoners or quelling disturbances.
Work Environment
Most work is performed within a penal institution environment. This position is in a 24/7 operation. A person holding this position is considered an essential worker and is subject to work mandatory overtime (i.e., double shifts) that may occur over a number of consecutive days.
