Description:

If yes, then the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center has a rewarding opportunity for you. We are currently seeking a dependable, compassionate and resilient individual to join our team as a part-time Detention Support Worker.

The ADC is a well-established agency in Prince William County, VA. We provide safety and security for our staff and the individuals in our care while protecting the residents of Prince William County. This position will involve direct contact with inmates housed at the facility.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provides customer service support to include greeting patrons at the front lobby entrance, answering phone inquiries and other duties as required. • Identifies and confirms patrons' business at the detention center. • Manages visitation and provides accurate recordkeeping of approved/denied visitation. • Performs routine administrative and support functions related to daily Detention Center operations. • Access, query, and update various automated information systems related to daily operations. • Accepts, inspects, and keeps track of all UPS/FedEx deliveries to the front lobby. • Coordinates the pick-up/delivery of incoming/outgoing staff and inmate mail. • Maintains a log and related records for all mail transactions. • Processes, inspects and properly distributes all mail according to U.S. Postal Service regulations as well as agency policies. • Operates mail meter and other electronic devices to keep illegal contraband from entering/exiting the facility through any mail items. • Receives and records pertinent information related to unusual occurrences and prepares and distributes correspondence as needed. • Supports agency staff and works collaboratively with different departments to help maintain agency functionality. • Participates in on-the-job training in various areas of Detention Center operations. • Follows security and emergency policies as well as learned standard operating procedures.

• Highly proficient in customer service • Communication Skills - the ability to speak well and convey information clearly • Multitasking Skills - the ability to handle several tasks simultaneously while meeting the workload demands of a multi-building jail complex • Administrative Skills-the ability to write, document, keep records and answer phones • Technical Skills - the ability to utilize various electronic devices and software mediums • Interpersonal Skills - the ability to handle conflict, be attentive and emphatic while maintaining a positive attitude • Basic knowledge of mail policies and best practices • Ability to search mail through basic physical techniques • Ability to function independently with little to no supervision

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or G.E.D • Valid Driver's license (with no more than 7 demerit points) • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical screening, a thorough background investigation, and a polygraph

Physical Demands/Frequency:

• Repetitive motions such as reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, touching, grasping, searching, talking, listening, seeing, and remaining vigilant • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects • If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work

Environmental Working Conditions:

• Work is routinely performed in an environment that involves some degree of risk to personal safety that may be stressful to certain individuals • Requires direct contact with inmates in a correctional setting • Equipment, Aids, Tools, Materials: Telephone, Computer, Radio, Fax Machine, Mail Meter, Renovo Video System, Mail Screener and other electronic devices or equipment
