Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Dev/Research Engineer 2. The work will be done onsite full-time in Mossville, IL. This is a long-term 24-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $41/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
Cullerton Group is seeking a Dev/Research Engineer to support advanced engine development and testing activities focused on large dual-fuel engine technologies. This role will work closely with engine development engineers and test cell teams to execute engine test plans, troubleshoot engine and test cell issues, and support performance and emissions validation activities. The engineer will contribute to hands-on testing, data analysis, test setup preparation, and issue resolution within a fast-paced engineering environment. This is an excellent opportunity for engineers who enjoy analytical problem-solving, engine development, and hands-on testing work.
Key Responsibilities
• Support and direct test cell operators during engine testing activities
• Troubleshoot engine, instrumentation, and test cell issues to minimize downtime and improve productivity
• Coordinate with facilities, instrumentation, mechanical, and support teams to resolve technical issues
• Prepare engine and test cell setups to support development and validation test objectives
• Document engine hardware, test cell issues, and troubleshooting activities
• Research, design, develop, and test mechanical systems, engines, and related equipment
• Analyze engineering specifications, customer requirements, and technical data to support project execution
• Assist with data analysis, performance validation, and emissions testing activities
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
• 2–4 years of engineering experience; internships and co-op experience will be considered
• Hands-on experience with mechanical/electrical test setups and data acquisition equipment
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, engineering drawings, and technical reports
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in team environments
• Self-starter with strong attention to detail and ability to work in fast-paced environments
Preferred Qualifications
• Understanding of diesel engine systems and engine testing environments
• Experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as MATLAB, CANape, or DIAdem
• Familiarity with emissions measurement equipment such as Horiba, AVL, or Allen Bradley systems
• Experience supporting engine testing, performance validation, or emissions development programs
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting large diesel engines or engine test cells preferred
• Exposure to CAD tools, instrumentation systems, or mechanical testing environments preferred
