Development Engineering Technician

Bold thinking. World changing. At SkyWater, our ingenuity helps improve lives around the world by manufacturing U.S. made semiconductors that are essential ingredients of modern life. Automotive safety enhancements, life-saving medical devices, consumerelectronics and American security require semiconductors. Working in our Minnesota headquarters, Florida, or Texas location — employees join together to improve the world. Explore what's possible. Joining our U.S. - based team means contributing to and learning about the commercialization of some of the most exciting technologies the world has ever seen. We are turning "science fiction" into everyday reality through technologies such as superconducting, 3D integrated circuits or computer chips, carbon nanotubes, photonic logic devices, micro electro-mechanical systems and other emerging device topologies. We manufacture products for aerospace and defense, medical, automotive, consumer and industrial markets, to name a few. Our customers include emerging leaders who rely on our intellectual property security and quality manufacturing services. Step into the future. SkyWater's values of Integrity, Excellence, Collaboration, Empowerment and Growth Mindset guide us to cultivate an empowered, learning environment. We also invest in developing highly skilled, dedicated employees — and employees who are entering the workforce for the first time, from the military, and a variety of educational backgrounds. Are you bold thinking? Find your place on our team and help us change the world!

Join a team that supports real semiconductor development work in a fast-paced foundry environment. In this role, you will help execute engineering experiments, troubleshoot material issues, and support technology development programs that directly impact customer and internal R&D success.

What You'll Do:

Support development work in real time. Communicate with Development Engineers during days and weekends when ATS material requires attention, helping keep experiments and development activities on schedule.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues. Assist with the evaluation and disposition of non-conforming material in partnership with engineering teams to maintain development flow and minimize delays.

Execute engineering experiments. Run standard and advanced experiments through the ATS Technician Request system. Your work will directly support technology validation, process learning, and customer development programs.

Build broad fab expertise. Develop proficiency across more than 100 semiconductor toolsets and gain cross-functional exposure to major process areas including Photolithography, Etch, Thin Films, CMP, Implant/RTA, and more.

Create and improve technical documentation. Draft and refine work instructions, process flows, and metrology recipes to improve repeatability, execution quality, and overall experimental success.

Drive continuous improvement. Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance process quality in collaboration with operations and engineering teams.

Grow your independence. Take on increasing responsibility and perform tasks with greater autonomy as your technical knowledge and confidence develop.

Support team objectives. Perform other duties as needed to support ATS engineering and development priorities.

Required Qualifications:
  • 2 years experience with an AAS degree or 4 years experience without a degree.
  • Must have technician experience in a semiconductor fab or relevant cleanroom/manufacturing environment.
  • Basic understanding of semiconductor processing in at least one area: Photo, Etch, Thin Films, CMP, or Implant/RTA.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools.
  • Ability to work B Shift (Sun–Tue + every other Wed, 6:00 PM–6:15 AM).
  • U.S. Citizen Required: This position will require the holding of or ability to obtain government security clearance which requires U.S Citizenship.
Why Join Us
  • Work on real technology development, not just repetitive production tasks, and see the direct impact of your efforts on next-generation devices.
  • Gain hands-on experience across a wide range of semiconductor tools and process areas, building a strong technical foundation early in your career.
  • Develop skills that can lead to future opportunities in Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Quality, R&D Support, and more.
  • Learn directly from experienced engineers who are invested in your growth and ready to help you take on greater responsibility.
  • Contribute to meaningful innovation at a U.S. foundry supporting defense, aerospace, and advanced commercial technologies.
