Job Summary
The City of Olathe is seeking a skilled and collaborative Development Review Engineer to help guide public and private development projects from review through construction.
In this role, you will manage and coordinate the review of public improvement plans and proposed construction plans, helping ensure projects meet city standards and support safe, reliable infrastructure for the community.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional who enjoys technical plan review, cross-functional coordination, and working directly with developers, contractors, consultants, and internal city teams.
This is a full time onsite role that will office out of our City Hall location, standard schedule is 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
Compensation for this position is an annual salary between $80,080 - $92,121, based on a combination of factors including but not limited to education and relevant work experience.

The Development Review Engineer is responsible for managing and coordinating the review of public improvement plans and proposed construction plans for private development. A significant portion of their time is spent evaluating and approving project and construction plans and providing technical assistance to construction inspectors.
Key Responsibilities
Reviews and approves public improvement projects (streets, storm sewer, sanitary sewer); reviews and approves proposed construction plans for developments; reviews and approves Right-of-Way-permits.
Provides assistance to construction inspectors and coordinates with outside consultants during construction; attends pre-application meetings and provides engineering review of projects; monitors and calculates utility development fees.
Meets with developers, engineers, contractors, and city staff on development projects; responds to questions and concerns from staff, other departments, consultants, and the general public.
Participates in special engineering studies to assess project impacts; prepares staff comments for planning commission staff reports and attends Planning Commission meetings.
Qualifications
Experience: Five years of engineering experience, preferably with development review experience in a municipality or public works department, is required. A master’s degree may be substituted for engineering experience.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. College level course work in civil engineering or related field is preferred.
