Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina and North Carolina Childrens Hospital has an open rank, full time faculty position for a Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician (DBP) to work in our growing Development, Behavior and Learning Program. This program provides outpatient services through interprofessional care delivered by DBP, psychology, social work, and nursing. Services include assessment and ongoing care for children with or at risk for developmental disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, genetic conditions, and other related disorders.

The DBP program provides an integral role in the training and education of pediatric residents and other learners. This faculty position will include participation in resident didactics, shadowing and supervision, and ultimately assistance in our future goal of developing a DBP fellowship. Given that UNC has a rich tradition of care for children with developmental disabilities, this role will also include close collaboration with UNCs Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities, the highest funded autism research center in the country and a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) site and UNCs TEACCH program.

This position will be located in the Division of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics, a newly formed Division within the Department of Pediatrics at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. The creation of this newly formed Division is one of many examples of the Departments commitment to the care of children with developmental disabilities. In addition to DBP, other key members of the Division include psychology, social work and nursing. Applicants should be board certified or eligible in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Applicants from groups under-represented in medicine are especially encouraged to apply.

The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina is an attractive place to live and work with great climate, schools, and both mountains and beach within a day drive.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants should be board certified or eligible in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Candidates must have completed pediatric residency and have either completed or in the process of successfully completing fellowship training in DBP.

Excellent communication skills with patients, families, colleagues, and staff are required. Necessary clinical skills include evidenced-based assessment of children with and at risk for developmental disabilities and ongoing care, including medication management.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Eligible candidates should be interested and knowledgeable in systems-based practice and interprofessional care.
