Detailed Job Description:
The Lead Automation Engineer is a senior technical practitioner who designs, builds, and operationalizes infrastructure automation capabilities across hybrid cloud, on-premises, and SaaS environments within a regulated financial services context. This role operates at the intersection of platform engineering, DevOps, and policy enforcement translating architecture intent into production-grade, policy-compliant automated systems. The Lead brings deep hands-on craft in IaC, CI/CD, and orchestration tooling, and is expected to influence technical direction, establish engineering standards, and accelerate the automation maturity of partner teams through code, documentation, and direct collaboration.

Equally important to technical depth is an orientation toward continuous learning and adaptive thinking. This role demands a high curiosity quotient a genuine drive to understand not just how things work, but why they fail, what comes next, and how emerging practices can be applied before they become industry standard. A growth mindset is non-negotiable: the Lead Automation Engineer actively seeks feedback, owns their development gaps, shares knowledge generously, and treats complexity as an invitation rather than a barrier.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
PLATFORM DESIGN & ENGINEERING

" Design and deliver production-grade infrastructure automation solutions across IaC, configuration management, OS provisioning, cloud resource lifecycle, and patch workflows
" Establish and enforce reusable automation patterns, golden paths, and self-service templates that reduce per-engagement toil for platform and domain teams
" Architect event-driven automation pipelines that respond to signals from observability platforms, ITSM queues, and compliance detection tools
" Own the full automation lifecycle from requirements through deployment, operational handoff, and continuous improvement
POLICY, GOVERNANCE & COMPLIANCE
" Embed policy-as-code (OPA/Gatekeeper, Sentinel, Kyverno) as a first-class engineering discipline not a post-deployment gate within all IaC and CI/CD pipelines
" Design and enforce RBAC, secrets management (Vault, cloud-native KMS), audit logging, and change control guardrails consistent with FFIEC, NIST CSF 2.0, and internal risk frameworks
" Produce examination-ready evidence artifacts as a natural byproduct of platform engineering, not as a separate compliance exercise
CI/CD & DEVELOPER EXPERIENCE
" Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps) that enforce quality gates, security scanning, policy validation, and automated rollback
" Champion GitOps practices infrastructure state is declared, versioned, reviewed, and auditable
" Reduce mean time to change and mean time to recovery through pipeline instrumentation, deployment telemetry, and runbook automation
ORCHESTRATION & PLATFORM TOOLING
" Operate and extend orchestration platforms (CloudBolt, Client Aria Automation, ServiceNow ITOM/IRM) as value-delivery channels for VM provisioning, resource scheduling, and lifecycle management
" Design API integration layers that connect ITSM, CMDB, monitoring, and automation tooling into cohesive, low-friction workflows
" Evaluate and introduce emerging orchestration and automation technologies with a bias toward interoperability and reduce blast radius
TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP & ENABLEMENT
" Set and enforce engineering standards code quality, testing practices, security baselines, observability instrumentation across the automation portfolio
" Serve as a technical mentor and thought partner to mid-level and senior engineers; conduct design reviews, code reviews, and post-incident retrospectives
" Document decisions as Architecture Decision Records (ADRs); maintain runbooks, operational guides, and internal knowledge bases
" Optimize before automating drive a discipline of questioning whether manual work should be eliminated, simplified, or delegated before building
