Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
DevOps Engineer to support modern technology and digital transformation initiatives within a
U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) environment.
The DevOps Engineer will design, implement, and maintain secure and automated development and deployment environments that enable engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-quality digital solutions. The role will focus on CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, cloud-native engineering, automated testing, security integration, and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can build and improve delivery pipelines, automate infrastructure and operational processes, and work closely with software engineering, architecture, security, data, and product teams.
Key Responsibilities- Design, build, operate, and continuously improve secure CI/CD pipelines supporting application and digital product delivery.
- Integrate security controls and automated quality gates throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
- Implement and expand automated testing within development and deployment pipelines.
- Automate development, deployment, configuration, and operational processes to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.
- Apply Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices to provision, configure, and manage cloud and application environments.
- Support cloud-native architectures, containerized applications, and modern deployment strategies.
- Improve system reliability, availability, scalability, and operational performance.
- Monitor application and infrastructure environments and identify opportunities for optimization and automation.
- Collaborate with software engineers, architects, security teams, data engineers, and product teams to improve the overall delivery lifecycle.
- Identify and reduce technical debt and improve maintainability of existing environments and applications.
- Support deployment and release management across development, testing, and production environments.
- Implement DevSecOps practices that integrate security, quality, and compliance into engineering workflows.
- Troubleshoot complex build, deployment, infrastructure, and production issues.
- Develop documentation, technical procedures, knowledge artifacts, and training materials.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices, automation, and delivery maturity.
Required Qualifications- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience integrating automated security and quality controls into CI/CD pipelines.
- Production experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
- Experience with automated testing and continuous integration practices.
- Experience with cloud environments such as AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with containerization and/or orchestration technologies.
- Strong understanding of DevOps and DevSecOps principles and practices.
- Experience with version control, build automation, deployment automation, and release management.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure and deployment issues.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native application delivery and modern infrastructure practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting U.S. Federal Government or DOJ technology initiatives.
- Experience with Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, and Docker.
- Experience with AWS and/or Azure DevOps environments.
- Experience implementing security scanning, vulnerability checks, compliance controls, and automated quality gates within CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience improving engineering delivery metrics such as deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, or release reliability.
- Experience increasing automated test coverage within legacy application environments.
- Experience supporting application modernization and migration to cloud-native environments.
- Experience with Kubernetes-based platforms and container orchestration.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code automation and configuration management.
- AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, or other relevant DevOps certifications.
- Experience working within Agile, product-oriented, cross-functional engineering teams.
- Experience helping teams improve their DevOps and engineering delivery maturity.
- Experience developing training materials and knowledge-transfer artifacts.
Compensation:
The expected compensation range for this position is $90,000 - $140,000 annually. Compensation is determined in good faith and may vary based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, clearance level, labor category alignment, contract requirements, work location, internal equity, and business needs.
