Title / Position : DevOps/SRE Engineer
Location : Chicago or Houston, 1/day week onsite (233 S. Wacker Dr. Chicago, IL 60606 or 609 Main St. Houston, TX 77075)
Duration : 3-month CTH, could be 4 months- Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a hands-on DevOps engineer while also helping drive future platform improvements.
- Respond to and resolve DevOps-related production issues and emergencies.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify and implement solutions.
- Ultimately become responsible for the overall health and stability of United's platforms.
- Quickly diagnose and address support issues as they arise.
- Build and maintain DevOps pipelines and automation processes.
- Work with tools such as Harness, GitHub, and Jenkins.
- Improve platform reliability, reduce downtime, and decrease time to recovery.
- Identify opportunities for technical improvement and personally execute those improvements.
- Actively contribute to team discussions and solution design, not simply attend meetings.
- Support a crew technology application used by more than 50,000 internal users.
- Work within an environment built on .NET and Angular; any application development exposure is beneficial.
- Required Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience with Harness and GitHub (top priorities).
- Harness experience is required; expert-level knowledge is not necessary, but candidates should have a solid foundation.
- Strong GitHub experience is critical, as this was a significant gap with the previous hire.
- Jenkins experience.
- AWS experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Dynatrace for monitoring and observability.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience, preferably with:
- CloudFormation
- Terraform
- Comparable IaC tools may also be considered.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to operate with limited direction, collaborate across teams, identify solutions, and execute independently.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Preferred Qualifications
- AWS expertise.
- Splunk experience.
- Shell scripting.
- CloudFormation and/or Terraform.
- Exposure to .NET and Angular codebases.
- Application support experience in a production environment.
- Ideal Candidate Profile
- The ideal candidate is a hands-on DevOps engineer who can independently troubleshoot issues, support mission-critical applications, build and improve CI/CD pipelines, and proactively identify opportunities to enhance platform reliability. This person should be equally comfortable responding to production incidents, collaborating with development teams, and implementing technical improvements that increase system stability and reduce downtime. Strong communication skills and a willingness to take ownership are essential.
