Qualifications
Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying experience in delivery, distribution, or strong mail handling experience in postal services may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred experience equivalent to four years of distribution, and/or strong mail handling experience for a large organizations or mail house.

Overview
Under general supervision, performs distribution work of routine difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the entry/working level class in the DGS Distribution series. An employee in this class is responsible for preparing mail for distribution and delivering mail. This includes collecting, sorting, routing, and processing mail. This class differs from the DGS Distribution Specialist 2 in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for leading and training staff.
Responsibilities
Serves as a point of contact for customers regarding delivery status, tracking inquiries, and service-related issues. Addresses and resolves discrepancies on inbound mail and packages and communicates delivery confirmations or exceptions in a timely and professional manner.
Collects, reviews, and validates routing data to ensure accurate and efficient delivery. Adjusts routes as needed based on operational changes, updated customer information, or volume fluctuations. Verifies shipment contents against manifests or tracking systems and promptly reports delays, incidents, or routing issues to management.
Organizes mail and packages by department, division, and delivery route to support efficient distribution. Utilizes motorized and non-motorized equipment (e.g., carts, pallet jacks) to move materials safely. Handles and transports mail tubs, packages, and related items to designated staging or delivery areas.
Documents receipt and delivery of accountable mail (e.g., packages, certified mail) using designated tracking systems such as WTS/Quadient. Ensures all items are properly scanned or recorded, including photographic confirmation when required, to maintain chain-of-custody and service accountability.
Performs routine pre- and post-operation inspections on all assigned vehicles and equipment, including checks of brakes, tires, lights, and other safety components. Completes required inspection checklists and reports mechanical issues, safety concerns, or maintenance needs promptly to management.
Identifies and responds appropriately to suspicious or hazardous items (e.g., damaged, leaking, or unknown substances). Follows established emergency and safety protocols and notifies appropriate personnel or authorities in accordance with departmental procedures.
Loads, unloads, and manages parcel lockers to ensure accurate package placement and retrieval. Troubleshoots basic locker system issues and escalates technical problems as needed to ensure service continuity.
