Mission Objectives - The Defense Health Agency's mission is to deliver integrated, high-quality healthcare to Service members, retirees, and their families through a globally distributed Military Health System that depends on robust, secure networks to power MHS GENESIS and other clinical systems. The Senior Network Engineer - Pacific ensures that DHA's medical facilities in Hawaii and the broader Pacific theater have secure, resilient, and high-performing LAN/WLAN networks so clinicians can provide uninterrupted care in some of the most operationally critical locations in the world.

Position Responsibility Summary - The Senior Network Engineer - Pacific Region, is responsible for regional leadership of LAN/WLAN engineering, sustainment, security hardening, and modernization across all DHA networked facilities in the Pacific Region. This role serves as the premier technical authority for Pacific LAN/WLAN/WAN issues, the primary regional interface to DHA NMB and MTF CIOs, and a critical enabler of the Distributed Services Model by providing high-level remote support, regional oversight, and on-site guidance when needed

  • Serve as the Pacific Region's senior LAN/WLAN engineer and primary regional point of contact for complex network issues, configuration management, multi-protocol routing, and network management across all DHA networked facilities in Hawaii and the broader Pacific theater.
  • Support DHA's medical mission by designing, engineering, and sustaining secure, STIG-compliant LAN/WLAN infrastructure for hospitals, clinics, and GSUs, ensuring the network adequately supports the MHS mission and delivers optimal performance for clinical and business systems.
  • Establish, configure, and maintain LAN/WLAN/WAN security barrier systems-including firewalls, VPN devices, and IDSs-to prevent unauthorized access to MTF systems, and ensure configurations comply with DISA STIGs, PPSM, and DHA security standards.
  • Identify and resolve complex LAN/WLAN/WAN issues using Government-furnished network management and automation tools; perform advanced diagnostics across all OSI layers, including analysis of network performance and management data, to maintain high performance and minimal downtime.
  • Lead or coordinate the creation and management of VLANs and GWLAN in accordance with DHA Zone Architecture; ensure 100% of in-scope network infrastructure devices are monitored and reporting into DHA's NMS to support PRS inventory and availability objectives.
  • Provide written recommendations and engineering guidance to field personnel regarding network tunings, upgrades, and standard changes; collaborate with the NetMOD Network Standards Team to update enterprise-level standards, SOPs, and configuration baselines.
  • Advise and consult with Government staff, agencies, and other contractors involved in LAN/WLAN design, implementation, deployment, and management to ensure alignment with DHA, PACOM, and MTF policies and objectives.
  • Lead or support Med-COI, D2D, and modernization deployments in the Pacific Region, including site surveys, SIP reviews, cutovers, and 'as-built' documentation, while protecting clinical operations during transitions.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24x7 remote escalation support for Critical and High incidents, coordinating on-site dispatch and communicating status to NMB, MTF CIOs, and other stakeholders as required by SLAs.
  • Mentor and provide technical direction to Referral Network Engineers, Network Engineer Associates, and Network Specialists supporting Pacific Region facilities; ensure consistent application of standards and best practices across the regional team.
