JOB REQUIREMENTS Education A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required, Masters degree preferred. Previous experience in community education desired. Experience Two years of experience in a health care and/or health promotion setting is required. Must demonstrate the ability to teach in a variety of settings and to diverse audiences. Experience in development of written course materials, flyers, advertisements, etc. as needed. Physical Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing of normal and soft tones. Frequent exposure to biological hazards. Distinguish smells. Distinguish temperatures by touch. Operates AV equipment. Continuous walking, frequent standing. Lifting, carrying up to 40lbs. JOB SUMMARY The Diabetes Educator is a professional directly responsible for providing education services to individual and aggregates in the community. The Diabetes Educator must demonstrate effective adult teaching/learning skills. The Diabetes Educator will plan and implement teaching both on an outpatient basis and in the community and wellness oriented learning needs. Excellent public speaking skills are essential. Identifies customers and actively demonstrates our appreciation of the opportunity to serve them. The Diabetes Educator will be a model for health promotion and wellness and will personally demonstrate a health lifestyle. Routinely, assigns and responsibly directs staff.
