Overview
The Dialysis RN Lead under supervision of their manager and/or is responsible for implementation of education programs for dialysis staff and offering onboarding for new colleagues. They will have direct accountability to assist in education and training, customer service and patient safety. The Lead Dialysis RN provides leadership and will be the subject matter expert ensuring regulatory standards are followed. They will serve as a preceptor, and be an active member of the healthcare team. The Lead Dialysis RN is a professional registered nurse with expert knowledge in utilization criteria and regulatory documentation requirements. S/he acts as an advocate for the Dialysis team, making sure the Clinical Manager/Director are aware of the unique needs of the team. S/he provides leadership for the Dialysis team by overseeing staff, fielding daily concerns, participating in process improvement initiatives, overseeing education of team and providers, and fostering collaborative relationships. This individual ensures staff education and clinical practice guideline adherence. Additionally, the lead orients staff and coordinates staff schedule, coordinates the department's document control, and provides supervisory coverage in the manager''s absence.
This role also provides professional nursing care to assigned patients with kidney conditions that require dialysis treatment. Reviews patient histories, administers medications, and performs dialysis treatments. Ensures dialysis machine and all products used during a treatment are properly prepared and meet quality standards. Monitors the patient during dialysis, records observations in patient medical records, and reports any changes in condition to the physician as needed and partners with technicians that perform monitoring or patient care tasks during a treatment.
This position will oversee operations at both FMC/VVMC, run water testing quality results, preparing quality reports and coordinating educational needs and onboarding.
Responsibilities
Patient Care* Addresses patient and family concerns, communicates issues and solutions through appropriate channels.
. * Maintain compliance with Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA).
Administrative* Staffing for current and next shift, determining appropriate staff levels and mix to provide quality care and maintain unit productivity.
Team Coaching and Development* Ensures staff accountability, monitors staff performance, and provides real time constructive feedback whenever possible.
Compliance/Safety* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
