Position Summary

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing periodic preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on all company-owned equipment used in a precast concrete manufacturing operation. This includes heavy equipment, trucks, forklifts, loaders, cranes, generators, compressors, and other diesel-powered machinery. The role ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports continuous plant production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on diesel engines and related systems
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems
  • Maintain and service heavy equipment including loaders, forklifts, telehandlers, boom trucks, dump trucks, and yard tractors
  • Troubleshoot engine, fuel, cooling, braking, and emission systems
  • Perform oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and lubrication services
  • Conduct equipment inspections and document findings
  • Respond to breakdowns and perform emergency repairs as needed
  • Maintain maintenance logs and service records
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies
  • Coordinate with plant management to schedule maintenance without disrupting production

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of diesel mechanic experience (heavy equipment or industrial preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics
  • Ability to read service manuals, wiring diagrams, and parts breakdowns
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred
  • CDL preferred but not required
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in outdoor/industrial environments

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Organized with good documentation habits
  • Ability to prioritize repairs based on production needs

Work Environment

  • Industrial precast concrete plant and yard environment
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions
  • Physical labor including bending, lifting, climbing, and kneeling
