Diesel Fleet Mechanic

Lonergan’s Charter Service, Inc. is looking for an experienced Diesel Fleet Mechanic to join our growing maintenance team. We’re a family-owned company that has been serving Maryland since 1959, and we take pride in maintaining one of the area’s premier commercial bus fleets.

If you’re a skilled diesel technician who enjoys diagnosing problems, performing quality repairs, and working in a clean, well-equipped shop, we’d like to meet you.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel buses and commercial vehicles.
• Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled inspections.
• Troubleshoot engine, electrical, air brake, suspension, steering, HVAC, and drivetrain systems.
• Complete repairs accurately and efficiently while maintaining high safety standards.
• Work with the maintenance team to keep our fleet safe, reliable, and road-ready.

Qualifications

• Experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy-duty fleet technician.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
• Experience working on heavy-duty diesel vehicles.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL is preferred but not required.
• Must provide your own industry-appropriate tools.
• Strong work ethic with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Lonergan’s Charter Service has been a family-owned and operated transportation company since 1959. The company was founded by John J. Lonergan Sr., and in 2005, after decades of dedicated leadership, he retired and passed the torch to his son, Greg Lonergan, who had been with the company since 1996 and now serves as President.

John’s grandson, Mike Lonergan Jr.—Greg’s nephew—joined the company in 2006 and now serves as Vice President. Dee Lawson, our Operations Manager, has been with us since 2009. Crystal Heitzer, our Dispatcher, joined in 2023, and Juli Taylor, our Office and Human Resources Manager, has been part of the team since 2022.

Lakesha Matthews, our Shop Administrator, has been an essential part of the company since 2003.
Our experienced Team Leads—Dimitria White, Kim Spriggs, Tammy McDevitt-Warfield, Shermeen Collins, Dina Monsalve, Anne Marie Robinette, and Cherbilia Chapman—bring a wealth of knowledge to the company. They play a vital role in training new drivers, assisting current staff, and supporting management operations.
Skip Humelsine, our Safety Manager, has been with the company since 2011 and is instrumental in ensuring that our safety standards remain exceptional.
