Job Description

A&A Safety is looking for the technician other technicians call. Not a parts-changer. We need someone who can walk up to a truck with no fault code, no history, and nobody to ask, and figure it out.

$37-$44/hour plus $3.00/hour shift differential. $6,000 sign-on bonus.2:00 PM - 10:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Amelia, Ohio.

WHAT YOULL EARN Base rate $37.00 to $44.00 per hour on experience and certifications, plus $3.00 per hour on every hour worked outside first shift - second shift, Saturdays, Sundays and callouts. Effective $40.00 to $47.00 perhour on shift.

Overtime rate: $60.00 to $70.50/hr. The differential is included. Sign-on bonus: $6,000. Half at 90 days, half at 12 months. On-call stipend: $250/week when you carry the phone, paid whether it rings or not. Callout pay: 4-hour minimum at time and a half. The clock starts when you leave your house and stops when you get back. Phone-resolved without leaving home, 1-hour minimum. Tool allowance: $1,500/year, spend it wherever you buy tools.

At a straight 40 hours thats $83,200 to $97,760. With the overtime this shift typically runs, on-call pay and the sign-on bonus, a realistic first year lands between $105,000 and $125,000.

We publish our rates because wed rather you know up front whether were worth a conversation.

WHAT YOULL WORK ON Roughly 350 trucks and trailers and 800 pieces of rolling stock, moving between our Amelia, Dayton and Cleveland branches. Any piece in the company can end up in your bay. Trucks: Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, International, Mack. Class 3 through Class 8, all major engine platforms, Allison automatics and manuals. Specialty equipment: pavement marking trucks, grinders, groovers, waterblasters, raised pavement marker installation trucks, TMA trucks, excavators, skid steers, Dingos, traffic control trailers. You will not spend three years running PMs on the same twelve day cabs, and nobody here is going to tell you a job is above your pay grade.

THE WORK

Diagnose driveability, performance and derate faults across all major engine platforms, including no-code and intermittent problems Aftertreatment start to finish: DPF service and regeneration faults, doser injectors, SCR and DEF, EGR - resolving derates rather than resetting them High-pressure common rail fuel diagnostics, turbo and VGT In-frame overhauls and cylinder head R&R. We do this in-house when space and workload allow and send it out when they dont. Electrical and network diagnostics down to the wire: J1939 and CAN bus, module communication, ECM parameters PTO-driven hydraulics on the specialty fleet, as deep as it goes. When one of those units is down, a crew isnt working. Brake service and DOT-qualified brake work, clutch, driveline, suspension, air systems. Transmission R&R - rebuilds go out. Repair, replace or send out. You make that call and you own it. Same with warranty capture and root cause on repeat failures.

OVERTIME, WEEKENDS AND ON-CALL Overtime is real and expected. May through November, expect at least 10 hours a week. December through April slows down and many of those weeks are a straight 40. Weekend work is week by week, not standing. We dont schedule blanket Saturdays. Every weekend hour pays the differential. On-call is a published rotation and youll know your weeks well ahead of time. When it isnt your week, you are genuinely off. How often: while were rebuilding second shift it runs roughly one week in three, and our target is one in four or better once were staffed. If a callout runs late, we adjust. Home at 4 AM and you call Marty and well push your start time or scrub the day. You wont have to fight for it.

ABOUT SECOND SHIFT RIGHT NOW Were rebuilding it, not filling a seat on a settled one. Our senior night technician moved on this summer and were hiring more than one person for nights. The first few months will be busy. It also means youd help build the shift rather than inherit someone elses arrangement. If youd rather walk into something already running smoothly, this isntthat job.

WHAT WE PROVIDE All specialty tools, diagnostic laptops, and the OEM diagnostic software and subscriptions for the platforms we run. You bring hand tools and a box, and the $1,500 allowance helps you build them. Factory training through the manufacturers we run - Cummins, PACCAR and others - on our dime. ASE test fees reimbursed and a bonus on every certification you earn.

CDL preferred but not required. Once we know youre a fit, well pay for the training, testing and endorsements. Four bays, heated, air conditioning going in this year. Uniforms provided, boots reimbursed at 75% up to $125/year. Youd report to Marty, our Fleet Supervisor, whos been with A&A 22 years and has run the shop for the last three and a half. He came up on the tools. He knows what a bad night looks like and he isnt going to ask you for something he hasnt done himself.

QUALIFICATIONS

Substantial experience diagnosing and repairing medium- and heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment across multiple engine platforms Able to diagnose independently and build your own test plan. No hand-holding, no defaulting to parts replacement. Real aftertreatment and high-pressure common rail experience, not just resetting codes Hydraulic diagnosis and repair: pumps, motors, valves, cylinders Comfortable with OEM diagnostic software and network-level electrical diagnosis Enough commercial brake experience to qualify as an FMCSA brake inspector, typically a year or more. We handle the documentation. Valid drivers license and insurable driving record. CDL preferred. Willing to work second shift and take part in the on-call rotation Able to pass a drug screen, background check and MVR review

A plus: ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck, engine overhaul experience, UHP pump experience, or a construction and specialty equipment background. All of these move you up the pay band.

BENEFITS Health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance. 401(k) with company match. 40 hours vacation and 40 hours sick after 30 days. 6 paid holidays effective immediately. HSA. Accident and cancer coverage.Uniforms. Boot reimbursement. $1,500 annual tool allowance. Paid training and certification reimbursement. 401(k) match: A&A matches 25 cents per dollar up to a company maximum of 2% of your annual pay. Contribute 8% and get the full match.

From there its a short phone call with Marty, then come walk the shop and meet the technicians - no commitment, and well work around your current schedule, evenings or a Saturday if thats what it takes.
